Lead Web Applications Developer - Databricks

We are seeking an experienced Team Lead - Databricks Web Applications to lead the design, development, and operation of secure, scalable, and user-focused applications built with Python, FastAPI, React, and the Databricks platform. You will provide hands-on technical leadership across React and TypeScript frontend development, FastAPI-based backend services, Databricks Lakehouse integration, and production operations. You will guide architecture and quality standards, mentor developers, and partner with product, design, data, and analytics stakeholders to deliver reliable enterprise applications from concept through production.

1. Architect and design secure, scalable, and maintainable Databricks web applications using React, TypeScript, Python, and FastAPI
2. Lead development of responsive, accessible user interfaces using React, reusable components, modern state management, and design-system standards
3. Design and implement Python and FastAPI backend services, REST APIs, request validation, asynchronous workflows, and integration layers
4. Integrate FastAPI services with Delta Lake tables, Databricks SQL warehouses, jobs, notebooks, Unity Catalog, and model-serving endpoints
5. Define frontend-backend contracts, API versioning, error handling, caching, state management, and application performance standards
6. Implement authentication, authorization, service principals, secrets management, and Unity Catalog-aligned data access controls
7. Establish automated testing for React components, FastAPI services, APIs, and Databricks integrations, together with CI/CD and production deployment practices
8. Optimise API latency, frontend responsiveness, Databricks queries, compute usage, reliability, observability, and cost
9. Lead and mentor a team of 1-2 full-stack Databricks application developers and enforce effective engineering and code review standards
10. Collaborate with product owners, UX designers, data engineers, data scientists, and stakeholders in Agile delivery

1. 8+ years of software engineering experience, including production full-stack web application development and data-platform integration
2. 2+ years of experience in a technical leadership or team lead role
3. Advanced Python development skills and strong hands-on experience designing production APIs and services with FastAPI
4. Strong React and TypeScript experience, including component architecture, hooks, routing, state management, responsive design, and accessibility
5. Strong hands-on experience with Databricks, Delta Lake, Databricks SQL, Unity Catalog, and applications deployed on or integrated with the platform
6. Experience integrating FastAPI applications with Databricks APIs, SQL warehouses, jobs, notebooks, and model-serving endpoints
7. Strong knowledge of REST API design, OpenAPI, asynchronous programming, data validation, error handling, and application security
8. Experience with authentication and authorization patterns such as OAuth 2.0 or OpenID Connect, service principals, secrets, and secure coding practices
9. Track record of converting analytical prototypes into reliable, scalable, production-ready React and FastAPI applications
10. Excellent communication, technical leadership, and stakeholder management skills, with a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or a related field

Preferred Qualifications

11. Experience with React tooling and libraries such as Vite, Redux Toolkit or React Query, Jest, React Testing Library, and Playwright
12. Experience with Python tooling such as Pydantic, SQLAlchemy, Pytest, dependency management, linting, and type checking
13. Experience with Databricks Asset Bundles, Databricks CLI, Git-based workflows, Docker, and automated application deployment
14. Experience operating Databricks and web application workloads on Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud
15. Familiarity with MLflow, Mosaic AI Model Serving, application observability, performance monitoring, and AI-enabled application patterns
